Rev. Mercedes Busto, Priest in Residence

The Reverend Mercedes Busto has served as Priest-in-Residence at St. Matthew the Apostle since November 2020. Mtr. Busto was born in Havana, Cuba, and was ordained to the priesthood at Trinity Cathedral in Miami in May 2014. She served Trinity Cathedral as Associate Priest since August 2016, and served as Cathedral Vicar from February 2018 to October 2020. She has also served as Assistant Rector at St. Philip's Episcopal Church in Coral Gables. Before entering into ordained ministry, she worked as a lawyer for over 30 years, including serving as Chancellor for the Diocese of Southeast Florida for nine years, and serves as Process Officer for Title IV in this Diocese, and is a member of the standing committee of the Diocese. Mtr. Busto earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1978 from Florida International University, a Juris Doctor in 1981 from Columbia Law School, and a Master of Divinity in 2013 from General Theological Seminary. She is married to William Jennings and has three children and eight grandchildren.
